A 19-year-old girl was stabbed to death while another 19-year-old was injured during an assault incident Sunday in Brooklyn, the New York Police Department said Monday.
Police received a 911 call of an assault in progress around 2:20 a.m. Sunday in front of a deli in Brooklyn's Park Slope neighborhood, the NYPD said. When authorities arrived at the scene, they found one of the victims with a stab wound to the chest and the other with a stab wound to her arm.
Both the victims were transported to a local hospital, where one of them was pronounced deceased and the other was said to be in stable condition. The deceased was identified as Samyia Spain of Brooklyn.
No arrests have been made with regards to the incident and an investigation is ongoing, police said.
New York teens attacked for rejecting man's advances
NBC News reported that the two girls, who were twin sisters, were attacked after they refused a man who made unwanted advances towards them.
A witness told the media outlet that an argument erupted after the man complimented the girls and told them that he found them to be attractive. When the women rejected his advances, he called them names and left the deli.
However, a few minutes later he returned to the deli and started "banging and kicking on the glass door trying to get in," the witness told NBC News, adding that the deli staff had locked the door for safety purposes.
"The second they opened the door, he ran back into the door and started attacking them,” the witness told NBC.

The twins' grandfather Alphonso Goodson narrated a similar account to the New York Post, saying that the man "walked in and started hitting on her."
Goodson said that his granddaughter asked him to leave her alone and the storeowner "put him out."
But the suspect "took it the wrong way," said Goodson, attacking the girls when they came out of the deli.
The police have requested anyone with information on the incident to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
